Glass Processing Line Sealing & Dust Control Retrofit
Problem
A glass processor had 5-8mm gaps at tempering furnace entrances, allowing dust and glass chips into the drive system — bearing life averaged just 3 months. The washing section conveyor also lacked flexible guides, causing glass sheet misalignment and scratches at high speed.
Solution
Installed nylon strip brush sealing system at furnace entrances — aluminum channel with PA6 bristles, density customized to gap width. Anti-static nylon strip brushes added at washing section as flexible guides, stabilizing glass sheets without scratching. Quick-release channel design for tool-free changeover.
Results
Drive system bearing life extended from 3 months to 18+ months. Glass sheet misalignment reduced 80%, scratch scrap rate dropped from 1.2% to 0.05%. Annual maintenance cost savings of ~$50,000.
