Steel Mill Conveyor Self-Cleaning System Upgrade
Problem
A steel mill's hot-rolling conveyor suffered from persistent material carryback, belt misalignment and dust emissions. Required 3-4 cleaning shutdowns monthly, losing ~8 production hours each time. Conventional scrapers wore rapidly in high-temperature environments.
Solution
Replaced scrapers with motor-driven industrial roller brush featuring adjustable height brackets and wear-resistant nylon bristles. The brush roller rotates counter to belt direction at 1.5x belt speed for effective material removal. PA612 nylon bristles rated to 180°C with segmented design for quick changeover.
Results
After 3 months: carryback reduced 92%, monthly cleaning shutdowns dropped to zero. Belt life extended 40%, workshop dust concentration decreased 65%. ROI achieved within 2 months. Solution rolled out to 3 additional lines.
